Care Plan for Life, July Goal

I know I am way behind, but the summer has just been flying by, but let's scratch another one off the list and move on.  Things went ok for the month of June.  I worked on myself and trying to eat a little bit better and get more exercise, to help improve my overall self development.  I did ok, but there is always room for improvement.

  • For July, I have been working on Work Related Items.  I have been educating myself more about the type of people that I work with and looking for new and creative ideas to make me better at what I do.  There are so many resources and good people out there that have helped me.  There is so much to learn and take in.

And here are some pictures, just because. This is my running view most evenings.  It's quite the workout running and pushing this kiddos.

Care Plan for Life, June Goal

Welcome to the month of June!  It's almost summer time, or is it summertime already?  Last month's goal was all about the children.  I think I did pretty good.  I mean, I really try hard to be a hands on dad and spend as much time as I can with the kiddos.  I try to do fun things and create memories for them.  I have started running quite a bit more and enjoy pushing the kiddos while we get the miles in.  There are some great trails around our neighborhood and we usually stop at the park or 7-11 for Slurpee's too.  So let's scratch another goal off the list.

  • So, for the month of June I have chosen to work on self development as my goal.  Now that I am settled into my new job, new home, pretty much new life, I need to find the right balance for work, family, church, play, etc.....  I will take the necessary time and steps to make sure I am getting everything done and accomplishing tasks on a daily basis.

Until then, I will playing with these kiddos often.

    Care Plan for Life May

I can't believe that it is already May!  This year is literally flying on by.  It really feels likes Spring, maybe even Summer up here in WA.  The sun has been shining for days now and we are hitting 84 degrees this weekend, wahoo!!  Last month was all about friends, and I did make a lot more phone calls, which is good.  I like to keep in touch and know what's going on with everyone.  So let's scratch that goal off of the list.

  • Now for the month of May, I think I will change direction and put it more towards kids/children.  I am wanting to spend more quality time with my children.  Since the weather has been nicer I have started pushing them again in the jogging stroller and I want them to be active.
So, here's to kids and spending as much time when them as I can.  And below is baby D and I last weekend, taking our usual #saturdayselfie shots, ha!

Care Plan for Life - April Goal

Geesh, I have totally been slacking on my goal this month.  Last month, I was going to take on education as my goal and I did.  Since I work with Alzheimer's disease a lot at work, I decided that I wanted to learn more about it and be more involved.  I joined a group that is associated with the Alzheimer's Association and it has been amazing so far.  I am on a committee to help plan the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer's in the South Puget Sound area.  I have met a lot of great people that are some way or another affeccted by the disease.  I have ccreated a team that will be walking at the event in September and this team has also been fundraising to help research for this disease.

If you would like to donate to my team, please go HERE and donate.  If you would like to be a part of my team and walk with us on Saturday September 14, 2013 in the South Puget Sound Tacoma area of WA, then please let me know.  Thanks!

  • Now for the month of April I have chosen Friends to be my goal.  Since I am new to the state of Washington and I do not know that many people, I will be talking with more people and trying to meet at least 1 person a week where I can interact with them and call them my friend.  Sometimes it is hard to meet more people outside of fmaily, work and church.  It is possible, but takes some extra effort.  So I am on the hunt for new friends to add to my circle and I also want to keep in contact with old friends from Utah, Colorado and the other places that I have lived.  I will pick up the phone and call them, not just message them on Faceook or send them a text.

    Here's to goals!

Care Plan for Life - March Goal

I finally signed up for a race to complete the February Goal.  I will be running an Easter 10k race here in Olympia towards the end of March.  It should be a nice, short run.  I am still deciding if I should break down and just buy a gym membership, or if I suck it and and run outside where it is a little cold and wet.  I just can't decide, but need to soon.

Here are the goals for the yearly care plan for life, just for a reminder:

  • Physical/Fitness
  • Spiritual
  • Career/Work Related
  • Financial
  • Family
  • Self Development
  • Pleasure/Vacation Family Time
  • Personal
  • Educational
  • Friends
  • Social
  • Kids/Children

  • Now, for the month of March I have chosen Educational to be my goal.  I have decided to educate myself more on Alzheimer's.  For those of you who do not know, with my new job in WA, I work with the elderly who have dementia, memory loss or Alzheimer's disease.  I want to learn as much as I can about it and get involved and help out in any way that I can.  I manage a 36 unit facility that entails a little but of everything.

To do this I know that I will be joining the Walk to End Alzheimer's.  I plan on working with the staff at my building and get them involved too.  I want to help out and be involved as much as I can.  So here it goes.

And here are some pics of baby D, just because she's cute and fun.

Care Plan for Life - February Goal

It's already February!  Can you believe it?  Remember how I created a care plan for my life this year?  Well the January goal is done although it will be used throughout the year, and now I move onto February.

Here are all of the sections/items that I would like to achieve for the year 2013.

  • Physical/Fitness
  • Spiritual
  • Career/Work Related
  • Financial
  • Family
  • Self Development
  • Pleasure/Vacation Family Time
  • Personal
  • Educational
  • Friends
  • Social
  • Kids/Children

  • So, for the month of February I have chosen Physical/Fitness to be the goal.  Since moving to WA, I have been slacking on my running.  I can count on 1 of my hands the number of times that I have been running since the St. George Marathon.  Not cool.  I am a slacker.  I need to start up again.  I don't know if it's the colder weather, or the fact that it always seems to be dark when I could run, but I am planning on finding a race to sign up for.  Maybe a half marathon.  I want to start running and training for it.  This will motivate me since I will have to pay for the race.

Here's to running and getting out and doing something that makes me feel good.  I hope to continue this running throughout the year and look for more races to compete in.

    Care Plan for Life

The New Year is upon us.  Welcome 2013!

This year I am taking a different approach to setting goals.  Since moving to the Northwest, I have been learning and reading a lot about my new job and what it entails. I want to learn as much as I can.  While reading last weekend (yes I occasionally read!) I had this brilliant idea that just clicked in my mind.  Now, with my new job I work with the staff to create 'care plans' for our residents that we will be caring for.  There are different sections that we cover and we point out the residents strengths and then name the assistance that they will need because they can no longer do it for themselves.  It's pretty cool.

Now, I have decided to create my own care plan and use it as a way to set goals and work towards something better in my life. For the work care plans it breaks up the plan into 20 different sections.  It covers anything and everything that is involved with their daily living in our facility, which is their home. I think the easiest way for me to create a care plan for my life is to come up with a different section for each month and set a goal for that section on a monthly basis.

So here are the 12 sections that will create my overall care plan for 2013.  They are in no particular order.

    • Physical/Fitness
    • Spiritual
    • Career/Work Related
    • Financial
    • Family
    • Self Development
    • Pleasure/Vacation Family Time
    • Personal
    • Educational
    • Friends
    • Social
    • Kids/Children

Some of these goals will be set up on a 12 month basis and others will be done on a monthly or yearly basis.  Hopefully, I will stick with it throughout the entire year, because I slacked off a little with my monthly goals last year. But we did have to pack up our house and move to another state, while living out of suitcases for 6+ weeks, give me a break, ha!

Wish me luck this year and please try this for yourself as it seems like a great way to get started for 2013.  For the month of January the goal is to save a certain amount of money each month.  Since we sold our house is Utah, we are renting now and want to own again within the next couple of years.  Houses cost more here in the Northwest and we will have to save up some money to have a good sized down payment.  We are setting goals of how much we will save each month so we can get on the house hunt again within the next couple of years.  Here's to financial goals and saving money for 2013!  And here's a picture of the kiddos, just because.  This was in the car while driving to Portland last week!

    June Goal

My goal for the month of May was to floss my teeth everyday.  I think I did pretty good.  I would floss when I could and where I could.  (Not in public though, eww!)  Although I did not officially post about this goal, it still happened.

Now moving on.  We are already in the month on June, can you believe it?  My new goal has to do with running again.  So, since I am starting to train for the St. George Marathon and I need some motivation to get running I am going to set a goal to go running (or walking to the clubhouse and back with the wifey) five days a week!  That means I can miss one week day and most likely skip Sundays. It doesn't matter how long it is for, either a good 5-6 mile run, or a quick walk to the part with the kids. It is totally doable, even though some days I might have to go before work.  Waking up early has never been easy for me, but I am sure it will be worth it.  So here's to me and running and getting up early!

These are some old pics of running back when we lived in Colorado.

    April Goal

So my new goal for the month of April is to floss my teeth every day!!  This sounds easy, but really it's not.  I mean, I like to brush my teeth a lot.  I even have a toothbrush and toothpaste at work and now I am going to start carrying floss.

I realize that I do eat a lot of candy, desserts and crap like that, and it is important that I brush and floss often, right?!  So here is the best kind of floss that I know of, what kind do you use?

As for last month's goal of drinking more water, I think I did pretty good.  It was easy for me to drink that water while I was at work, because I could just fill up my drink and sip on it throughout the day.  The weekends were a little harder because we were on the go, etc...etc.....  I am still pleased with achieving the goal!

Now, here's to April and flossing!

    Saturday, March 3

A new goal for the month of March

Well the month of February has come and gone, we even got an extra day this year because of the whole leap year thing.  My goal of running 20 miles every week was ok.  Although, I have to confess that the week that baby D was  born I did not go running once!!  How sad is that??  But the rest of the month I did good.

For the month of March I have decided that I need to drink more water, so I am going to drink (at least) one of these every day for the entire month of March!  That's 44 ounces of pure  cold agua!

I am already on day 2 and I am doing good.  I am sure that I can keep it up too.  Plus water is good for you, well so they say.  It just makes me have to pee a lot more often, ha!

In other news, I signed up for the race!  At a discounted price, wahoo!  Some of the guys that work there emailed me and gave me a promo code for advertising for them on this blog.  Pretty cool how this whole 'www' thing works.  I like it!   So, we (me + some friends) started a team, and you know you want to join us.  So, when you go HERE to register put the team name as the Dirty Dozen and the Team Captain name is Shields, then you will be with us all, ok?  We are running at the 9 am time.  So get your color me rad on and go sign up.  Let me know if you have any ?'s or issues when you are registering.  Oh and get your discount code on their facebook page HERE.

Have a good weekend and enjoy all of the snow!!  It finally feels like winter and I am going to get my ski on tomorrow, finally!!

    February Goal

Well I completed my first goal for the month of January.  I did not eat any candy for 31 days, but that just means I had more dessert, ha!  Of course, on February 1 I hit up the grocery store for some cinnamon bears and Starburst jelly beans.  Mmmmm....they were good.  And I had a Nerds Rope waiting for me from my birthday.  Candy really is good and so are completing goals.

So for the month of February my goal is to run at least 20 miles every week.  This shouldn't be too hard, but it will motivate me to make time to go running and get my butt in gear for the half marathon training.  I only have a couple more months.

    {my running shoes - asics}

So I will keep my running shoes in good use this month and get some good mileage logged on my training.  I can't wait!  Wish me luck with my goal for the month of February.

    GOALS for 2012!

The New Year is upon us and that means that everyone will be setting new goals for themselves.  The gym will be packed this week and will slowly back off with the number of people over the month of January, ha! A friend of mine gave me the idea of setting 1 goal for each month throughout the entire year.  So for 2012 I am going just that!  And for the month of January my goal is to not eat ANY candy for the entire month.  I have been good for the first 2 days and plan to do the same for the rest of the month.

So here's to the rest of the month, being candy free!  I hope you have some good goals set for yourself to where you can better yourself or improve in something on your life.  I will be posting my goal each month, some will be not doing something while others will be physical, mental, etc....  It should be good for me!

    * On a side note, we had a fun New Years Weekend and posts are coming up.  And the new season of the Bachelor started.  We will be having our weekly parties again, so come on by if you want!  Ha!
